ALL ABOUT OPERA:
Students are becoming familiar with the following opera terms:
Libretto - the story
Librettist - the writer of the story
Overture - introduction of the opera (no singing; just instrumental music)
Aria - a tune sung by a single voice with or without accompaniment
Recitative - 'sung' dialogue
Things we are learning from 'Mr. Darin', our composer:
Opera is a play but where every word is sung.
Two types of pieces sung: An aria tells how the singer is feeling.
Recitative tells the story.
Opera began: 400 years ago, Italy. Most operas originate from Italy, Germany and France.
Operas are still be written today (Canada, the U.S. and Britain).
There are even Rock Operas.
